Evolve Cellars Cabernet Merlot B.C.

When you promise to find great wine at a great price it’s always more satisfying to recommend a wine from beautiful B.C. As the quality of home grown wines improves, there’s been a notable increase in price. What’s caught my attention is that quality winemakers in our province recognize the need to ensure they don’t price themselves out of the marketplace. Evolve Cellars is a great example. This Cabernet Merlot should be on your list. I love a wine that gives you a hint of what to expect with the aroma flowing from the glass. Evolve does that with a cherries and spice on the nose. This is a delicious, smooth, flavourful wine loaded with B.C. fruit….cherries, plums and strawberries. This is a perfect match for good conversation but I can’t wait to serve it with a charcuterie on the patio. I’d also add this to my list of BBQ wines too. A lot of wine for the price. Well done Evolve Cellars.

Le Vieux Pin Petit Blanc B.C.

When you live beside the Pacific Ocean you need a perfect wine companion to pair with your favorite seafood dishes. Luckily we also live in a province that takes wine making seriously and here’s a prime example. I fell in love with Le Vieux Pin seven years ago when I had my first glass of their rose. Since then I’ve enjoyed their Syrah and red blend and more recently this white blend named Petit Blanc. There’s nothing little about this white. As the label tells you it’s mostly Sauvignon Blanc along with a healthy infusion of pinot gris and other varietals too. The result is a complex and delicious blend that’s loaded with stone fruit…peaches, plums and apricots accompanied by enough citrus to match the bounty of the sea. This is a beautifully balanced wine that has a gorgeous, long finish. Equally impressive is the price. Don’t miss out on this B.C. beauty.
